Down the TBR Hole Meme

Down The TBR Hole is a meme hosted by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Happy Saturday y’all! I’m continuing my journey down the TBR hole this month. I think we’ve all been there at one point or another – Looking at our TBR, wondering what to read, and being completely overwhelmed at the sheer amount of books we have listed. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 362 books on it, my physical shelf and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them 😅). Want to join me?

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the blurbs of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more a month. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

Half Bad by Sally Green

I remember seeing this one when I first started blogging. So many bloggers recommended and raved about it that I added it to my TBR. Reading the blurb now though, I’m just not sure it’s for me. I’m not a huge fan of witches. However, I do own this one….so for now it stays.

Verdict: STAYS

The Harvest by N.W. Harris

I remember really enjoying the first book of this series, The Last Orphans. I just never got around to reading the next books in the series. I’m not sure if I will ever get to these. I don’t remember enough about the first book to go on to the next one.

Verdict: GOES

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Ummm….how have I NOT read this one yet?! That blurb is amazing and right up my alley. I love sci-fi. Add in some dystopia and an off-planet setting, and I’m sold. I need to read this one asap! And my library has it so I’m off to read 😂

Verdict: STAYS

This is the Wonder by Tracey Ward

I love Tracey Ward so it is no wonder that this one ended up on my TBR. I even own it. However, I have to be in the mood to read a contemporary. Those are just not my first pick. This one stays only because of the author.

Verdict: STAYS

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

This one got added to my TBR because my husband loves these books. I have tried more than once to read it. I’ve made it roughly half-way through before giving up…..

Verdict: GOES

Voyager by Diana Gabaldon

I read the first book of this series several years ago. I thought the ending was perfect, and honestly I was afraid to keep reading. Because I haven’t read the second book, for now this one goes.

Verdict: GOES

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Someone recommended Rainbow Rowell to me several years ago, and I came across her books on Bookoutlet and my local used bookstore. At one time, I owned all of her books, but after several moves, I now own none of them.

Verdict: GOES

Book Cover for "Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2)" by Diana Gabaldon

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon

I loved Outlander as I’ve already mentioned. But I loved it SO much I was afraid to keep going. A friend of mine recently read this one and has convinced me to keep going.

Verdict: STAYS

Mine to Fear by Janeal Falor

I loved the first two books of this series. The world-building is phenomenal, and the characters really stick with you. I’d like to go back and binge-read this series now that it is finished.

Verdict: STAYS

Gilded Ashes by Rosamund Hodge

This novella is set in the same world as Cruel Beauty, which I loved, and is a retelling of Cinderella. One of these days I’d love to read it, but for now (especially at the price point), it goes.

Verdict: GOES

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

I really don’t know how all of these contemporaries wound up on my TBR 😅 Maybe it was a phase I went through….Regardless, contemporaries are not my first choice of reads.

Verdict: GOES

Never Never by Brianna R. Shrum

I love retellings, and Neverland is one of my favorite fictional places. This story tells how Captain Hook became the feared captain. I don’t remember adding this one to my TBR, but that blurb sold it for me.

Verdict: STAYS

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Hey look! Another Rainbow Rowell book I’m never going to read 😂 Sorry, this one isn’t staying because I have zero interest in reading it. Maybe one of these days I will get around to reading Rainbow Rowell, but for now it’s a no.

Verdict: GOES

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

I don’t read much nonfiction. In fact, I can count on one hand how much nonfiction I’ve read in the past five years. One of those books was Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? I laughed until I cried and then laughed some more. I one-hundred percent believe she is my soul sister. Reading her book felt like I was talking to a best friend. How I haven’t read this one yet is beyond me. It’s moving to the top of the TBR pile.

Verdict: STAYS

Untamed by A.G. Howard

Every time I look at my bookcase, this book seems to be screaming at me: “WHY HAVEN’T YOU READ ME YET?” For real though, why haven’t I? The end of the Splintered trilogy left a bad taste in my mouth. I love the series as a whole, but not the ending. In truth, I’d love to go back and binge the whole series from beginning to end, including this book.

Verdict: STAYS

    • Exactly! That’s what I’m doing as well. I’m starting by clearing out my goodreads TBR then I’m going to go through my kindle books. I got so many of those for free when I first got my kindle and I know a lot of them I may never read 🤦🏼‍♀️
