Happy Saturday y’all! I’m continuing my journey down the TBR hole this month. I think we’ve all been there at one point or another – Looking at our TBR, wondering what to read, and being completely overwhelmed at the sheer amount of books we have listed. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 365 books on it, my physical shelf and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them 😅). Want to join me?
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the blurbs of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more a month. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. Dying by the Hour by Kory M. Shrum
I love the premise of this series. The main character experiences death so others don’t have too. Not really sure why book two ended up on my TBR when book one didn’t 🤷

Angel Evolution by David Estes
I don’t remember adding this one to my TBR, but I know why it is there….David Estes. I devoured his series The Dwellers Saga. I added the first book of all his series after that, but I’ve yet to read any more of them. I’ve never been a big fan of angel mythology (though that is changing) so this one isn’t staying.

Sunset Rising by S.M. McEachern
This book wound up on my TBR because of the post-apocalyptic/dystopian blurb. At the time, that was right up my alley. Though in the last year or so, I’ve started reading more fantasy/sci-fi so reading the blurb now, it isn’t appealing to me.

This is another dystopian/post-apocalyptic book, however it comes highly recommended by a friend. So I think I’ll keep it for now. Psst….it’s currently free on Kindle for anyone that wants it 😉

Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This book is getting read this month! It is this month’s book club pick on #COYER. I’m so excited to finally get a chance to dive in to it. I love JLA! My goal is to actually read the entire series this month….I don’t know if that will happen but we will see 😀

The Iron Butterfly by Chanda Hahn
This series recently got new covers and they are gorgeous! That aside, I love the blurb. A girl on the run, hiding as a servant, mysterious powers….right up my alley! Also only 99 pennies on Kindle right now 😉

This book caught my attention for a few reasons. First the author, I enjoy Estes story-telling. He is a fantastic writer! The other is the concept. This is a post-apocalyptic story set years after the Salem Witch Trials, and the curse (aka their revenge) has awoken. To say I’m a little excited for it is an understatement.

Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel
I’m going to be completely honest here, I don’t remember this book at all! However after reading the blurb, I do know why I added it. This is a contemporary retelling of Peter Pan. Y’all I love Peter and the Lost Boys and Captain Hook and Neverland! This is about a girl looking for her missing brothers who instead finds a cove of young surfers. Intriguing….

Lizzy & Jane by Katherine Reay
I adore Katherine Reay’s retellings of Austen and Bronte classics. I’m not sure how I haven’t read this one yet, especially since it’s a retelling of my favorite Austen.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
This is a classic case of FOMO and getting caught up in the hype around a book. I remember when this came out. Everyone in the blogging community was talking about it, how good it was and how it was a must read for summer. Well, I’m not afraid to admit that contemporary YA is not really my favorite. In fact, I rarely read YA contemporary. So I think I can safely pass on this one.

I don’t use the ‘to-read’ option on Goodreads for I’ve always kept a pen and paper list of reading wants. Books already purchased I do keep some lists on my blog (certainly not all of them, that’s for sure – not sure if I can read all I’ve bought in my lifetime, which is sad… but they were a great price at the time!)
I am thinking of making a purchased-to-read shelf on Goodreads though. A way to keep me honest with myself, keep updated on what’s still left to get read, and maybe (if I’m brave enough) to admit that I’m never going to read that *free* or 99 cents book if I live to be 120, and simply remove them from the Kindle.
So, you’ve inspired me to get some order to my TBR list(s). And congrats on your sorting through the books. Funny, isn’t it, how at one time a book sounded great and now it’s… why did I buy that?

Exactly! I love the idea of creating a shelf for books purchased to read. That may be my next project once I get through my Goodreads TBR. I’m with you. I have more books than I will read in my lifetime thanks to al those freebies and 99 cent books. It would be freeing to go through now and say you know what I prob won’t ever read you 😂
