TTT #175 – Will You Be My Friend?

Lillian: Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Book Characters I’d Love to Be Besties With.” I’m an extreme introvert so I don’t have many friends. Mainly because I keep to myself. So if you are a true friend, know that you are one of the few to pull me out of my shell. Talking to people gives me hives, especially strangers. Like I’m a run in the other direction and melt into the wall kinda girl instead. But I digress. There are many book characters that I’ve read that I’d love to be besties with in real life. Either because they are badass or remind me of myself.

Amanda: I am completely opposite of Lillian, in that I absolutely love meeting new people! I like having a LOT of friends, even though crowds are a little overwhelming sometimes. If I can find even one person I can relate to, which I am always determined to do, I’m golden. It’s easy for me to relate to people I can make eye contact with – but characters in a book? That’s more challenging. These are my favorites thus far! 🙂

Amanda’s Top Ten

Aelin from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass: This woman. I started powerlifting because her character made me feel strong. I dyed my hair because she has silver hair. If I were intending to have another child, Aelin would be in the running for a girl’s name. She’s badass and a QUEEN in so many ways. Deffo best friend material. 😉 

Hermione from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling: Hermione makes it cool to be clever, and I like that about her. I’d sit in a squashy arm chair by the fire and read with her ANYTIME. 

Tessa Grey from The Shadowhunters Series by Cassandra Clare: Tessa is kind, compassionate AND a bookworm. What’s not to love?? I think we’d get along swimmingly.

Simon Lewis from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare: Simon is the kind of boy who sticks like GLUE to his friends. He’s the kind of friend you’d WANT around, even if you have to slay demons with him and it has to be a secret. Plus his taste in ironic t-shirts is A+++. 

Kirukirilya (Kiukiu) from The Lord of Snow and Shadows by Sarah Ash: Poor Kiukiu. She needs a good friend – one that can teach her things and balance out her naivate. I volunteer as tribute! And she gets to hang out with owls. That’s pretty cool, too.

Magnus Bane from the Shadowhunters Series by Cassandra Clare: Magnus is magical, ancient, and still cool and relevant. And he can shoot blue sparks from his fingers. I think an afternoon of conversation and cat petting would be an ideal situation for me and my BFF Magnus.

Taylor from The Fae’s Captive Series by Lily Archer: Taylor is launched from a totally ordinary life in college to the land of Fae, where she learns the secret of her birth and who she really is. Taylor handles it all with intelligence and grace. She even attempts to help folks along the way, even though she’s in a new land with some scary and strange creatures. A perfect addition to my circle of influence (as the self-help gurus would say).

Fanny Price from Mansfield Park by Jane Austen: Fanny Price is my polar opposite. She is very careful with her words and actions, and tends to see life in the larger scope. Reading Mansfield Park changed how I behave and deeply affected how I interact with my peers. Everyone needs that friend who challenges them and makes them a better person. Everyone needs a Fanny Price in their life.

Jezelia (Lia) from The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson: She ran from an arranged marriage, she survived on her own working as a waitress, and has been fighting for her life and for her kingdom ever since. She’s strong and she loves people, and she has a great deal of compassion for those less fortunate than herself. She’d be one of those friends that would be encouraging you to follow your dreams, and to genuinely care for people along the way.

Yrene Towers from Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas: Irene is a selfless, clever healer who falls for one of my favorite “book boyfriends” Chaol. They’re a perfect match – and Yrene is essential to the war efforts in Adarlan. Plus she’s a bit sassy. I kind of adore her. Can you imagine a girls night out with Yrene, Aelin, and Lysandra? How FUN. 😍 

Lillian’s Top Ten Eleven

Aelin from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: I fell in love with Aelin during her time as the king’s assassin. Her obsession with books and the fact that she kicks butt left me with a slight girl crush on her. I could see myself being besties with her….at least in my own mind 😂

Hermione from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling: Who wouldn’t want to be friends with Hermione?! She’s the brains of the operation, and I whole-heartedly believe that if it wasn’t for her (and Ron) Harry would have never defeated Voldemort. 

Cress from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: While Cress’s book was my least favorite of the series (at least my first time through), I found myself loving her. She is naive, God love her, but this is one of the draws. I just wanted to reach through the pages, give her a hug, and a pep talk. 

Bella from Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer: Not the movie Bella, but the book Bella. I love book Bella. She’s independent, fiesty, and sarcastic. Y’all I love dry humor. I married a man who is so dry that sometimes (even after 13 years) I question if he’s joking or not. I think Bella and I could get along just fine. 

Bixby from The Bixby series by Michelle Bryan: I just like Bixby. It’s truly the only reason she made the list. I’d probably annoy the hell out of her. But she’s great! She’s foul-mouthed, rude, and speaks the truth even if it hurts. Everyone needs a little Bixby in their life. 

Wyn from Imdalind by Rebecca Ethington: Her obsession with Firefly (really Nathan Fillion) and classic rock is enough to know that she and I could be besties. I can see it now, listening to Styx and fangirling over Mal. What could be better?

Rhen from To Best the Boys by Mary Weber: I fell in love with Rhen like I did Aelin. Rhen is a force to be reckoned with. Once she sets her mind to something, she doesn’t stop until she finishes it. She is an inspiration and I want her as my friend. 

Belle from In Bed with the Beast by Tara Sivec: Like Cress, Belle’s naivety is endearing. Not to mention reading what she goes through reminds me a little of myself….except maybe the stripping thing. Not only would no one want to see me strip, I’d die of a heart attack first 😂

Trixie from Trixie Towers series by Scarlett Dawn: Trixie is my new favorite character of Dawn’s. I love her! She’s a no-nonsense kind of girl. What you see is what you get. She keeps no secrets….well maybe one or two, but their for her own safety. And she’s funny! I don’t know that I’d ever quit laughing if we got together.

Oliver from The Unearthly series by Laura Thalassa: Everyone needs an Oliver. Everyone! Not only is he a great friend, but he also has your back. And he’s fae. A little magic never hurt anyone, right?

Franny, Court, and Mykal from The Raging Ones by Krista & Becca Ritchie: As I was writing today’s post, I couldn’t stop thinking about these three. You can’t have one without the other. They are a package deal. But I love all three of them so it works. Court is compassionate and determined, Franny is empathetic, Mykal is loyal to a fault.
