TTT #171 – Auto-Buy Authors

Posted July 16, 2019 by Lillian in Features / 19 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookishย in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together

Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Auto-Buy Authors.” I’ve done this topic previously (see it here). I thought it would be fun to revisit and see if any have changed. Below is a list of my top auto-buy authors, the authors that I buy their books without reading the blurb or knowing what the book is about, just knowing that the author wrote it ๐Ÿ˜‰ As always, the list in no particular order. Authors link to their page on Blog/Goodreads/Amazon(aff).

My Top Ten Auto-Buy Authors

Michelle Bryan: I love this author! The first of hers I read was her debut series the New Bloods Trilogy which is YA dystopia. She’s branched out from there and has two other series I highly recommend, a New Adult sci-fi/dystopia The Bixby Series and a YA fantasy series written with author M. Lynn Legends of the Tri-Gard.

Laura Thalassa: If Laura writes it, I read it. Simple as that. It doesn’t matter what the book is about, she wrote it, I’ll read it. I’ve read everything she’s written to date and regret nothing. No one writes like her. She has a unique brand of snarky characters and leading men that I always think won’t top the last, but always do. Shoot, this girl had me falling in love with a character who is literally the devil. I regret nothing ๐Ÿ˜‚ YA rec: The Unearthly series | New Adult rec: The Fallen World

Siobhan Davis: From sci-fi to romance, YA to new adult, it doesn’t matter what genre Siobhan can write it. This author will take your emotions on a wild ride, crush your heart and repair it all in one book. Sci-Fi rec: True Calling or Saven

Rebecca Ethington: This author wrote my favorite series. Y’all I have never loved a series like I love Imdalind. It is a paranormal, urban fantasy, the first in this genre that I ever read. I read the first three books of the series prior to starting the blog. The series sits at 9 books, has two spin-off series (the most recent debuting last week). If you haven’t read these yet, what are you waiting for?! Like seriouslyโ€ฆ.go now. It’s free on KU, first book is Kiss of Fire. And y’all I don’t share my book boyfriend. Sorry, but Ilyan is mine. I’ll only share with Joclyn ๐Ÿ˜‰

Kelly Oram: Kelly never fails to put a smile on my face. And it’s not a normal smile either. It’s a gigantic goofy grin, even my cheeks are flushed when I’m finished reading. She writes mostly YA in a variety of genres: contemporary, scifi, fantasy. My favorite is Cinder & Ella. I own this book in ebook, paperback, and audio. It is THAT good!

Melissa Delport: I love this writer’s style. She writes characters and worlds that feel so real. I could live in them. My introduction to her was her New Adult dystopian series The Legacy. Y’all!!!! This series is so realistic it’s scary. I recommend it to everyone.

Marissa Meyer: I never thought I’d enjoy fairy tale retellings until I read Cinder. Then all things changed. I can’t get enough of them. Meyer’s retelling of Cinderella, Snow White, Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel rank as my favorite. I love the sci-fi world she builds and the villain is one of my all-time favorites. I also enjoyed her standalone Heartless. But alas, I haven’t read her superhero series yet. I do own them and can’t wait to start.

A.G. Howard: This author reminded me how much I loved Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with her retelling Splintered. If you haven’t read it, be prepared to fall head over heels in love. Her vivid imagery has me hooked. I’ve read almost all of her books to date, and each is unique in immersing the reader in the world with the characters.

Sarah J. Maas: What can I say about this woman?! I fell in love with Throne of Glass like everyone else. This author knows how to weave a wonderful story with fully fleshed out characters and a world you can get truly lost in. I can’t wait for her new series Crescent City next year.

Jay Kristoff: I have a confession. I had not read anything by this author prior to this year. Then I read Aurora Rising which he co-authored with Amie Kaufman. Y’allโ€ฆ.no joke. I’m obsessed. I have since bought all his books that are currently available and am slowly devouring each one. If Laura Thalassa is the queen of snark, he is the king.

Jay Kristoff is 100% the King of snark, have you read Nevernight yet? It’s one of my all time favourite reads.

    • Not yet. Iโ€™ve had a copy for a while now and grabbed an ebook while itโ€™s on sale this month. Iโ€™m hoping to read it soon โ˜บ๏ธ

    • Funny you should mention that….when I was making the list, it dawned on me how little I read male authors. I think I need to branch out a little ๐Ÿ˜‚
