Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Top Ten Favorite Books of 2017.” I can’t believe it’s already this time of year again when I start looking at all the books I’ve read. Where did 2017 go?! So far I’ve read 110 books this year (that’s including rereads) so not near as many as in previous years. It’s been a slow reading year for me, and that’s ok. Forty of those I gave 5 stars, so nearly half 😀 I’d call that a good reading year even if I haven’t read near as many books! Below are my top ten favorites of the favorites, in no particular order. As always titles/covers link to Amazon/Goodreads/Blog Review.
My Top Ten Reads of 2017
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas: A fantastic end to a fantastic series!! I loved every word of this book and when I got to the end I was sad it was over….then I turned the page and found out there are going to be more set in this world and I was ecstatic. Not sure where I was when I missed the announcement of those but I’m all kinds of excited. Rhys *swoon*
Shattered Stars by Theresa Kay: Another fantastic end to a fantastic series 😀 I love all things sci-fi and this series is totally binge-worthy and rereadable…I should know as I’ve read all three multiple times now. I think what I love most about this book is that it takes dystopia and meshes it with an alien race. I love it!
A Strange Hymn by Laura Thalassa: My year would not be complete without a Thalassa read. I adore this new series and the second book of the series did not suffer second-book syndrome like most do. Nope, this book is fantastic. I found myself on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, and swooning over the adorable yet scary Bargainer.
The Savage Dawn by Melissa Grey: This book destroyed me….like completely and utterly destroyed me. I was a blubbering mess at the end. I adore these characters, the sacrifices they make, and the culmination of the war that has loomed for two books now. Seriously a beautiful, come-full-circle ending for this series….just FYI read with a box of tissues 😉
Invictus by Ryan Graudin: This book takes one of my favorite sci-fi themes (time-travel) and combines it with piracy. Seriously a fantastic, unputdownable read! It reminds me a little of a cross between Doctor Who and Firefly.
Never Apart by Romily Bernard: Another book that destroyed me! This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read. I can’t even really tell you anything about it for fear of spoiling the book. Just trust me it’s great!
Prophecy of Darkness by M. Lynn and Michelle Bryan: I have a soft spot for fantasy and I adored this one. The world-building and the fully fleshed out characters made for an amazing read. I couldn’t set it down and I wound up reading it twice. And that ending….ugh!!! I need book two ASAP!
Perfectly You by Robin Daniels: Occasionally I get in the mood for a light-hearted, contemporary romance and well this is that. I loved this book! I loved the characters, the banter, and the swoon-worthy chemistry between them. It also reminds me of one of my favorite movies Can’t Buy Me Love (not the new one, the one with a very young Patrick Dempsey).
The Ghost of You and Me by Kelly Oram: Kelly Oram never lets me down. I know when I want to smile during a read and feel my heart swell because of those swoon-worthy moments that I need to grab one of her books. Yet this book was not all warm and fuzzy. In fact, I ugly cried more than once reading this one. Oram’s ability to make her characters come to life on the page is astounding and draws me in every time. This book is no exception. Just read it with tissues on hand 😉
Loving Kalvin by Siobhan Davis: So I have a love-hate relationship with the Kennedy Boys, however Kalvin’s story falls firmly in the love category. Kalvin and Lana *sigh* I rooted for them in the original trilogy and I cried and ached for them in this one. I absolutely loved reading their story. If you enjoy drama with lots of twists, you’ll love this one too.
