Little man has been out of school for almost four weeks now and the time is going so fast. Last week he had his shots and physical for Kindergarten. He’s all up-to-date and ready to go. He asks me every morning when will he go to school. I’m a nervous mama but I’m sure he’ll do great. We are moving next week and he is so excited. He hasn’t seen are new place yet, but it’s all he talks about (besides school).

Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White is one of my favorites and we are a little over half way through with it. We should finish it before we move next week. Little man is loving it so far!

National Zoo and Aquarium Month
June is National Zoo and Aquarium month here in the United States. I personally didn’t know that, but luckily our zoo membership let us know. There are a lot of fun activities you can do with your kids and a ton of great books out there to introduce them to animals and marine life. We recently received some books from Blue Slip Media that I wanted to share with you today.

The colorful maps, vivid photographs, animal glossary, and tons of bite-sized facts add up to a book that will delight and inform younger readers.
The Animal Planet Animal Atlas is one of those books that my son and I both enjoy. It is oversized (11 x 13 inches) and full of colorful drawings, maps and pictures of animals from around the world. Very informative!!! It differentiates among the biomes, different habitats, species, and much more that inhabit the different continents. And it’s not a small book! Clocking in at just under 100 pages, my son (who is only 5) can look at his leisure at different animals and learn all sorts of things about them from what they eat, how they sleep, and where they live. I personally like the “tour guides” and the appendix at the end that lists the animals from A-Z and where to find them in the book. Because of the length, the atlas is a great cure for summer boredom and a perfect take along to the zoo so you can learn on the go. Wild Animals (Animal Bites Series) by Laaren Brown is a beautiful collection of photos and facts featuring wild animals from all over the world. It’s perfect for little ones (especially those with short attention spans) as the book is divided into two-page spreads. Each two pages, there are facts about an animal, a where they live (jungle, water, seasonal movers, etc) feature, how they live (i.e. what they eat) feature, or a vista (one photo feature). Personally I love the animal pages, learning interesting facts about animals such as the African Elephant, grizzly bear, and orcas. The other features are really neat as well and are my son’s favorites. He loves learning about the different habitats and why some animals live in water while others live on land. The photos are vivid and remind me of what you’d see in the National Geographic/Life magazines, catching animals in their natural state. Like Wild Animals, Farm Animals (Animal Bites Series) is a fun read, full of facts that appeal to all ages. It’s perfect for those lazy, hazy summer days when your little one needs something to do. I love the way the book is divided into two-page spreads. Every two pages, there are facts about an animal, a where they live feature, how they live, and vista/gallery photos. In addition there is a full index at the back! There are plenty of facts about the different animals and it’s presented in such a way that preschoolers will understand. My son loves learning about the different types of cows, chickens and horses you find on a farm and of course learning about Wilbur (the pigs).
