Have you ever loved something and then not talked about it? Or maybe you felt like you didn’t talk about it enough? This week’s topic is “Ten Books I Really Love But Feel Like I Haven’t Talked About Enough/In A While” and there are SO many books that I’ve LOVED and it’s been a while since I’ve talked about them.
Y’all know I love indie authors and small publishing companies. There are some amazing books in the indie world that don’t get the credit they deserve or the publicity they need to make it. SO today I’m twisting the topic just a tad….Here’s my top ten indie/small publishing house books I LOVE and haven’t talked enough about in no particular order. Covers link to Amazon (affiliate).
Top Ten Books I Love But Don’t Talk Enough About
The Unearthly by Laura Thalassa: First, let’s all take a moment to bask in the covers for this series. Are they not beautiful?! I started reading this series about 2 years ago after a friend of mine recommended them to me. I devoured each one, usually in one sitting. I just wasn’t able to sit the books down! The Imdalind Series by Rebecca Ethington: I started this series about the same time the fourth book came out. I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of the plot, the intricacies, the twists and surprises, the characters, the romance, the world-building, ALL OF IT! This is by far one of my all-time favorite series. Following one girl who thought she was just a girl, the story evolves into magic and myth and everything Joclyn thought was true is turned upside down. I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! I don’t think I can say it enough. The last book comes out later this year and I’m not sure if I’m dying to read it or dying because it’s over. To see my reviews for Imdalind, click here.
The Dark Angel Saga by Hanna Peach: Again, let’s all bask in the beauty of these covers, shall we ? When I first started blogging, I was asked by the author through one of my groups on Goodreads to read the first three books of the series. At the time I wasn’t an angel fantasy fan and I was leery. Then I started reading and oh my was I wrong to be worried! Dark Angel is one of my all-time favorite series. It’s so good that I may have reread it once or twice in the last two years. It’s like urban fantasy meets good vs. evil meets steamy romance. Alyx and Israel along with Vix, Jordan, Balthazar and other characters are my favorite cast in a series. The Broken Ones by Jen Wylie: This series was one of the first that I read for the blog. It was the first time an author emailed me anyways and so it holds a special place in my heart. The series is fantastic and addictive! The first book begins with Aro, a young girl who is taken on a slave ship, stolen from her brothers and everything she’s ever known. She meets a few people on the ship and together they make an escape. Her journey is far from over though and she finds herself in a world where magic, elves and fae exist. The New Bloods Trilogy by Michelle Bryan: First author I ever featured on the blog and one of my favorites ☺️ The New Bloods Trilogy is simply wonderful. It takes all of my favorite elements — dystopian, fantasy, science fiction — and blends them into one fantastic world. Tara is one of those characters you either love or hate and I loved her. She starts the series angry and bitter and slowly grows out of it, learns to trust and begins to understand the secrets surrounding her life. I cannot wait to find out the ending to this series! Distraction by Angela McPherson: I’m not a huge fan of contemporary romance, but when it’s done right I love it and this book is done perfectly! The chapters alternate POV between the two main characters, Elle and Tristan. Best friends growing up, inseparable, the two go to different colleges: Tristan to protect Elle and Elle to hide her true feelings for her best friend. BUT that all changes when Tristan transfers. I honestly was yelling at the book, trying to talk to the characters. It’s realistic, pulls on your own emotions and has you rooting for them, crying with them, and swooning over and over again. Futureless by K.J. Draeghan: I have a confession, I’m a bit of a cover snob so when I saw the cover for this one I was skeptical. Snobbish of me I know, but it’s true. Then I started reading it. I was hooked almost instantly and read this massive book in less than 48 hours. It’s epic fantasy at its best. The author has created her own world, species and all, along with some fantastic characters. I absolutely LOVED this book and cannot wait to read more from this debut author. The Gates by A.S. Oren: I’ve been a fan of this author since her Spearwood days and I fell in love with this epic series. The Gates is actually two different series set in the same world with the characters occasionally crossing over. Gildemer is the cleaner version of Miltic, both are serial series set in a new world with amazing, unbelievable characters! In Gildemer, the government tampered with DNA and so the characters are a mixture of cat and human. In Miltic, you get a steampunk feel along with the casts offs from the high society. The Té-Trad Tales by M.A. Wilder: Seriously this series is one of the most imaginative I’ve ever read. Set in an entirely unique world, the author creates a fascinating story full of romance, heart-break, action and adventure. AND it’s set on another planet….how cool is that?! Plus Beckit is a phenomenal lead. I love her! And Aaron *swoon* I want a knight ? To see my reviews of The Té-Trad Tales, click here.
The Codex: An Angel’s Guide to Seducing a Human by Joe Duck: Okay I’ll be completely honest with you here….I did NOT expect to like this book. In fact, I was really questioning my sanity when I accepted it for review. But then I read it and oh boy!! I’ve never laughed SO hard at a book. The author has created a unique fantasy, unlike any I’ve ever read and it’s borderline satire. There’s this naive angel Narius who is sent to Earth to find an ancient book and destroy it before a demon rises from it. His codex is his guide and it talks to him. However the Codex is dirty-minded and likes nothing better than preying on Narius naivety. It’s honestly the most fun I’ve had reading a book! OMG!!! You are my soulmate! I tend to gravitate towards indie books and small publishing houses too… And while I’ve only read the first two books, I ADORE the Imdalind series!!! I’m waiting for the series to finish before diving back into it at this point, but Rebecca Ethington created an amazing world. I even got to meet her at Penned Con a few years ago and she is delightful. I remember Kiss of Fire reminding me of another favourite series of mine, the Star-Crossed series by Rachel Higginson.

Squee!!!! You’re the first person I’ve had on here to know what the Imdalind series is ? So glad you love them too! I’m dying for the next book. The last one was a little slow on action but lots of character development. I’m afraid to read the end!
