Weekend Reads #55 – A Fistful of Evil by Rebecca Chastain

Weekend Reads #55 – A Fistful of Evil by Rebecca Chastain

A Fistful of Evil by was just ok for me. It’s about Madison Fox, a down on her luck woman who finds out she’s a bit special because she can see evil. Now she gets this awesome paying job working as an Illuminant Enforcer, fighting evil, and saving the city she lives in. It’s billed in the synopsis as being similar to Stephanie Plum….this was its mistake. You see I LOVE Stephanie Plum and all her crazy antics. I have loved her for the last 15 years (which is when I discovered her and Joe). So this book set high expectations… Read more »

Blog Tour: Broken Things to Mend by Karey White

Blog Tour: Broken Things to Mend by Karey White

January 15, 2016 Features, Reviews 2

Blog Tour Schedule Broken Things to Mend by is a sweet, heart-breaking story about a young woman on the run who finds a home in a small town in Oregon. This is the first book in a standalone series called . The only character that is the same throughout the books is the Matchmaker and I’m really excited and intrigued to see how that plays out! Celia is a beautifully written character that the author gives strength, faith, and hope. An orphan who bounced from foster home to foster home, Celia has zero self-confidence and no sense of self-worth. She believes… Read more »

Review: Hell’s Dodo by Tamara A. Lowery

Review: Hell’s Dodo by Tamara A. Lowery

January 14, 2016 Reviews 0

So this was different…but in a good way 😀 Hell’s Dodo by is the fifth installment to the Waves of Darkness series about Bloody Vik Brandee, his crew and his curse. Like the last four books, Vik is sent on a quest to find the fifth Sister of Power and she in turn sends him on a wild chase of his own. I would say that there is a pattern to each book, and while there is to some degree, making it slightly predictable, there are more and more side plots that tie into the main adding to the unpredictable side. Please note… Read more »

Review: Twelve Days in December by Michelle Paige Holmes

Review: Twelve Days in December by Michelle Paige Holmes

Twelve Days in December by is a sweet romantic novella set in New York. While it is a part of a series, I can tell you that it does not have to be read with the series to enjoy it. I haven’t read any of the previous books and loved this one! William and Charlotte are characters from Marrying Christopher, and while I hadn’t read that book, I found the two quite charming. William Vancer is a wealthy NY businessman, who is set to claim an inheritance only if he is married. He is kind, gentle with Charlotte, and takes up with her son… Read more »

Weekend Reads #53 – Saturday Shorts Edition

January 2, 2016 Reviews 1

Today for your Weekend Reads, I thought I’d bring back Saturday Shorts. When I first started the blog, I was reading a lot of short stories in between my longer reads and I thought “How cool would it be to have a feature devoted just to those?” Well it was cool but after all of 4 months I ran out of novellas for review which is why it changed to what you now know as Weekend Reads. This feature is really anything I want it to be 😉 So today I have some fun short stories and one novella to… Read more »

Review: The Brontë Plot by Katherine Reay

Review: The Brontë Plot by Katherine Reay

January 1, 2016 Reviews 1

The Brontë Plot by left me with mixed feelings. There were some aspects of the story I really enjoyed and others not so much. Lucy Alling is an ordinary girl with the propensity for telling tall tales.* When it’s discovered that the rare books she sales are not so rare as they are forged, she finds herself lost. She’s let down the only people who seem to care about her: her boss and her boyfriend. When the opportunity to go to London presents itself, she takes it. Lucy is a bit hard to like, but at the same time I didn’t… Read more »

Review: The Machinery by Gerrard Cowan

Review: The Machinery by Gerrard Cowan

Have you ever read a book that left you wondering what the heck and wanting more all at the same time? The Machinery by is that book! With it’s name and even it’s description I was expecting an epic sci-fi adventure, but it didn’t take but just the first chapter to correct that assumption. The Machinery falls more into an epic fantasy with elements of sci-fi thrown in. Honestly it was excellent!!! I finished the book roughly a few weeks ago and it has taken me several days to (1) recover emotionally and (2) pull my thoughts together for a coherent review. Cowan… Read more »

My initial reaction to the newest book from has no name. I honestly can’t even begin to describe my reaction reading this book. Saven: Deception begins strong. There’s an alien abduction, lots of dystopian world-building, and again ALIENS! So my initial thoughts were… Read more »
