Children’s Corner: Summertime Reading

June 19, 2017 Children's Corner, Features 0

I can’t believe it has been half a year since I did a Children’s Corner update! How is that possible?! Life has seriously gotten busy and I’m trying to figure out how blogging fits in now. Spring was fun. Little man played baseball for the first time, he was catcher most games and he loved that. In May he graduated Kindergarten 😭 I swear I’m a pile of mush! This year just went way to fast. Currently Reading Up Next Summertime Summer is finally here and little man is enjoying his time off from school. We have had multiple pj days… Read more »

Children’s Corner: When You’re Feeling Sick by Coy Bowles

Happy New Year fellow moms and teachers! Can you believe that it is now 2017?! Me either 😀 We finished off 2016 with a bang. Little man enjoyed his gifts from Santa, especially his books which made this bookworm happy. He went back to school last week and I’ve been missing him. I enjoyed having him home for a few weeks and now the house feels too quiet. We did crafts, we played games, and we built with Lego castles…specifically a haunted mansion and Ninjago city. Currently Reading Up Next Cold Season We are entering the time of cold season… Read more »

Children’s Corner: Animals, Hockey, and Star Wars

Children’s Corner: Animals, Hockey, and Star Wars

This year is flying by! I can’t believe that next week is Thanksgiving and there are only 5 more weeks to Christmas. I need to get on my Christmas shopping ASAP! Little man is still loving school. He’s started reading some on his own which makes this mama’s bookworm glow and he’s starting to count money. It amazes me how much little ones learn in such a short time. We also started speech therapy. It’s something I’ve questioned for a while now. Little man didn’t start talking til late (like just before he was 4) and he is hard to… Read more »

Children’s Corner | Llama Llama Misses Mama

Children’s Corner | Llama Llama Misses Mama

September 12, 2016 Children's Corner, Features 0

Last week the literary world lost one of its greatest children’s authors: Anna Dewdney, author of the Llama Llama series. Anna Elizabeth Luhrmann was born on Christmas Day 1965 and grew up in Englewood, New Jersey. Her father was a psychiatrist and her mother was also an author, writing books for young adults. Before discovering her Llama, Anna illustrated several children’s books, her first being The Peppermint Race by Dian Curtis Regan. The idea for Llama Llama came to Dewdney while on a road trip with her two young daughters. As they passed animals on the road, she would ask her girls… Read more »

Children’s Corner: Kindergarten has Begun!

Children’s Corner: Kindergarten has Begun!

Oh wow!!! Did Summer fly by or what?! Little man started Kindergarten last week and so far he is loving it. It’s been a big adjustment for all of us, I think me more than him. Every day he comes home with new stories about what he’s learned. From the stories, I gather that Science and Math are his favorite classes, which is no surprise. They were always my favorite too. He’s been learning about bugs: specifically caterpillars and how they turn to butterflies and bees. He’s also obsessed with his new skill of counting to 100 and writing his… Read more »

Children’s Corner: National Zoo and Aquarium Month

June 16, 2016 Children's Corner, Features 1

Little man has been out of school for almost four weeks now and the time is going so fast. Last week he had his shots and physical for Kindergarten. He’s all up-to-date and ready to go. He asks me every morning when will he go to school. I’m a nervous mama but I’m sure he’ll do great. We are moving next week and he is so excited. He hasn’t seen are new place yet, but it’s all he talks about (besides school). Still Reading: Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White is one of my favorites and we are a little over half… Read more »

Children’s Corner: The Jungle Book on the Big Screen

Children’s Corner: The Jungle Book on the Big Screen

May 11, 2016 Children's Corner, Features 2

Two weeks ago we took little man to see Disney’s live action The Jungle Book and I have to admit I was impressed. Before we went I was concerned that it would be too scary for a five year old, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did Disney stay fairly true to Rudyard Kipling’s classic, but they even included some of the songs from the cartoon I grew up loving. My son was entranced and when we went to the zoo this past weekend wanted to see Shere Khan and Baloo. I call that a win 😉 Overall Conclusion: Recently Read: Lassie… Read more »

Children’s Corner – I Won a What?

Children’s Corner – I Won a What?

April 13, 2016 Children's Corner, Reviews 2

This past month has been exciting for little man. He’s learning sight words at school and has really picked up on them. It makes me a little sad but SO proud to see how quickly he is picking them up. He’s reading fairly well too considering he just turned 5 (can you tell I’m a proud mama?!). He has also picked up my book addiction 😀 The school sent home a Scholastic Book Club order form. I made the mistake of giving him a pen and telling him to circle the books he’d like to read this summer….30 so books… Read more »

Children’s Corner: The Tree in the Courtyard

Children’s Corner: The Tree in the Courtyard

March 24, 2016 Children's Corner 0

It’s been a while since little man checked in and we got our first review book in the mail this past week so I thought it was a great time. Last week was Spring Break here in East TN. We checked out a small private school back home for him to attend (crossing all our fingers and toes that it happens). Small class size would be perfect for him. Little man is excelling in preschool since we came back from Christmas break. Of course I’m biased but I think he’s doing really well. He knows all his letters and the… Read more »

Children’s Corner #14 – First Scholastic Club Order

Children’s Corner #14 – First Scholastic Club Order

November 25, 2015 Children's Corner, Reviews 0

November has been a super busy month for little man and me. At the end of October, his preschool sent home a Scholastic Book Club order form. I let my son circle the books he wanted and told him that maybe Santa would bring him a few for Christmas. The kid circled almost $200 worth of books!!!! What can I say? He’s my son 😀 I wound up ordering less than a quarter of that, but still he got 11 new books. Santa, aka Momma, was going to wrap these and put them under the tree. Unfortunately he gave them to… Read more »
