November 2018 | a Challenge and a Read-a-Thon: Our Goals

Posted November 5, 2018 by Lillian in Challenges / 1 Comment

Lillian: Y’all I’m still struggling with the fact that it is November already. Where has 2018 gone?! This is a busy month, but one I always look forward too. Why? Well Thanksgiving of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ But also two of my favorite things happen in November: the HoHoHo Read-A-Thon AND Can You Read a Series in a Month? Challenge. In the four (or maybe three, I can’t remember) that I’ve signed up for the series challenge, I’ve yet to complete it. BUT I’m going to this year!!! And it really wouldn’t feel like the holidays without the HoHoHo RAT. I’ve even convinced Amanda to participate *evil laugh*

Amanda: I love late-night cozy-cuddles reading in the fall and winter. It’s like my thing. If it’s this time of year, I’m going to be reading something. I LOVE love love Christmas stories, classic or modern, so I’m SO excited to do the HoHoHo Read-a-Thon. ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m so down to read a series, too. This is going to be a fun challenge. I’m going to reward myself with expensive coffee and hard-cover books for finishing these.

Can You Read a Series in a Month?

The Can You Read a Series in a Month? Challenge is hosted by Berls and Michelle @ Because Reading. It started on November 1st and ends November 30th.

Lillian: I have always loved binging series whether thatโ€™s a TV show, movies, or books. I hate cliffhangers, so Iโ€™m the girl that usually waits until a series is finished so Iโ€™m not hanging too long between books. This challenge is right up my alley, and while I’ve participated in the past (more than once), I’ve yet to complete the challenge. I’m DETERMINED to do so this year.

Amanda: OH how I love a series, man. I love to binge and just be totally immersed in that world – see the full arc, beginning-to-end. LET’S DO THIS THING. In one month. No prob, Bob.

The Rules

  1. Pick 1 series. Yes, just 1. Announce which series youโ€™ve picked on your sign up post and link it back here.
  2. Read EVERY book in the series. You donโ€™t have to read novellas or short stories, just the core books.
  3. Read them all between 12am (your time) November 1st and 11:59pm (your time) November 30th. They MUST be marked (on Goodreads) as started and finished in the month of November to count.
  4. Enjoy bragging to everyone about how youโ€™re all caught up on whatever series you read (AKA โ€“ have fun)! Use the hashtag #SeriesinaMonth

Our Goals

Lillian: I’m planning to read a three book series for this challenge, specifically The Ryogan Chronicles by Erica Cameron. I received the series to review and the last book came out over the weekend. SO I kinda have to read this one ๐Ÿ˜‰

You can track my progress below OR on my shelf at Goodreads.

Amanda: I’m going to read a three-book series as well, called The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson. I can’t wait to get into this series! It looks like I’m going to be in for a good ride, ya’ll. NOW. To manage my time well enough to ACTUALLY FINISH.

HoHoHo Read-a-Thon 2018

The HoHoHo Readathon i

Lillian: This will be my fourth year participating in this readathon, and I honestly look forward to it every year! While I don’t typically read contemporary romance, I do LOVE small town Christmas romances. You know the uber sweet kind that reminds you of a Hallmark movie….those are my kind of holiday reads. It puts me in the Christmas spirit, and the last three years I’m usually ready to decorate the house after finishing the readathon ๐Ÿ˜€

Amanda: Not going to lie – I’ve already listened to Christmas music this week. I’m already ready already…FOR CHRISTMAS. I’m going to revisit some of my favorite fictional places and memorable love-sick characters. Time to bust out the hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, and cookie-scented candles cuz MANDA CLAUS IS COMING TO BOOK.

Our Goals

Lillian: The readathon is a little longer this year than last so I’m challenging myself to read a couple extra books. This year my goal is to read at least 7 books which should sufficiently put me in the Christmas spirit. Now I think I can meet this goal, however I don’t promise it because well….I’m subbing for my son’s school for at least three days during the readathon….so we shall see ๐Ÿ˜‰ Here are a few of the books I plan to read:

2018 HoHoHo Read-a-Thon (Lillian): 1/7

Amanda: So I love any of the Echo Ridge/Snow Valley anthologies. I mean. I adore them. So I’ve added the Christmas anthologies to my list, plus a classic that I’m reading with my children. We’re doing a unit on A Christmas Carol in December – but I can reread it early. ๐Ÿ™‚ The other anthology just looks fun (I love historical fiction) and I threw in one more book cuz why not. So three anthologies and two novels? How do I even count those? I may have bitten off more Christmas cookie than I can chew…

  1. I love the HoHoHo RAT! I’m participating too!! Heck, I’m even participating in a different Christmas readathon that starts after US Thanksgiving. I always end up with way too many Christmas books!

Good luck on both the challenge and readathon ladies!!
