Happy Thursday y’all and welcome to the first Children’s Corner of 2018 ๐Ÿ˜€ January was so busy with school getting back in session that little man and I missed getting a post up. It was a wet, miserable month. Little man had the flu at the end and is just now starting to get back to himself. We spent a lot of time cuddled on the couch watching movies and reading. At school, he is getting ready to start his second chapter book and they are learning their -3 facts in math. This week was supposed to be science week and Liam has been sick so he was SO disappointed he was missing it. However there are so many sick (teachers AND students) the school decided to close for the week to give it a good deep cleaning and give everyone a chance to get well. I’m so thankful for that and Little Man is excited that Science Week was moved to next week so he won’t miss it ๐Ÿ˜€

The creator of the Toot & Puddle series brings us Elmore--the warmhearted porcupine sure to steal the hearts of a new generation of Holly Hobbie fans!

Elmore is a porcupine desperate to make friends. But it is hard to seek closeness with others when you're covered with spikes that shoot off your back every so often. Elmore suffers rejection and heartbreak, but the goodness of his forest community ultimately shines through as the animals find a way to connect with this prickly bundle of love.

Holly Hobbie is the creator of the beloved Toot & Puddle series and now brings us a character for the next generation. Just as charming, funny, and good-hearted as her little pigs, Elmore the porcupine will snuggle and prickle his way securely into the picture-book canon.

What a sweet, charming story!ย Elmoreย by Holly Hobbie is about a lonely porcupine looking for friends. Elmore lives alone in a large maple tree and longs to have friends. But it’s hard to make friends when the thing that is supposed to protect you keeps others away. It doesn’t take long though for Elmore to figure out a clever use for his quills and the forest creatures to see him differently.

I liked the message of the story. Elmore embraces what is different about him and shows the other forest animals that it is nothing to fear. The goodness and kindness he shows is what they remember and soon he has many friends. This is a great story for little ones that are getting ready to start school or a new venture as it encourages them to be unique.

Little man enjoyed the story as well. It is beautifully illustrated and he liked how the pictures correlated with the words on the page. A bonus for my early reader was that the wording wasn’t too difficult for him to read on his own. I only helped with one or two words and he was so proud of himself when he finished. While he enjoyed the story, it is on the young side for him. He will be seven in a week and this is a lesson he’s already learned. With that said, it was still enjoyable.ย Elmoreย is a sweet read for snuggling on the couch or at bedtime.
