Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Throwback Freebie,” so I decided that what better way to do a throwback then to look at my favorite reads from my first year blogging. I’m quickly coming up on my 4 year blogaversery and there were some great books and new-to-me authors I found in 2014. As always, titles/covers link to Goodreads/Amazon(aff)/blog review and are in no particular order 😀
Top Ten Books From My 1st Year Blogging
The Imdalind Series by Rebecca Ethington: What can I say about this series?! When I started blogging only the first four books were available and I devoured them! I had read her Through Glass novel (the first three episodes were originally released in that format) and I love it so much that I wanted to read more by this author. I wound up devouring the series and anxiously waiting for each book after. If you enjoy paranormal romance/urban fantasy, I highly recommend it!
The Té-Trad Tale by M.A. Wilder: One of the first authors to take a shot at an unknown blogger and let me interview her. I fell in love with this series. To date, it is still one of the most unique books I’ve ever read. Honestly nothing comes close to it. Despite some formatting/grammar issues, this is one of my favorite series. Love paranormal? Love fantasy? This is a series you should read ASAP!
The Unearthly by Laura Thalassa: I came across this book thanks to an old friend who recommended it to me. The girl has never let me down and I devoured this book and each one in the series. Heck! I’ve devoured everything this author has written to date since reading this one. There’s a perfect blend of urban/contemporary with paranormal/fantasy and a dose of snark you’ll find no where else.
The New Bloods Trilogy by Michelle Bryan: I had the pleasure of meeting this author in person at UtopiaCon this summer. She was one of the first I ever reviewed for, and the book is a fantastic read too. I’ve read it a couple times now and find new things each time. A mix of scifi/dystopia and a little paranormal, it’s a must read in my book!
For Better or for Worse by Ingrid Nickelsen: I love this book! It is an interesting take on the afterlife. I loved reading the interesting world the author created, and my heart broke for the character over and over again. It was a first for me too. All the characters were dead….no joke! If you enjoy fantasy with a healthy dose of romance, I highly recommend it.
Dark Angel by Hanna Peach: This author changed my mind about angel mythology. Personally it was never a subgenre of fantasy I enjoyed, but this series changed that. Alyx and Israel….my heart can’t handle them. Love this saga and everything that transpires. If you enjoy urban fantasy, grab a copy ASAP.
Shock Me by Ashley C. Harris: I love this series! It’s like an X-men/teen superheroes sci-fi/fantasy read. There’s a bit of head-hopping among the main characters but I don’t think the story would work any other way. I can’t wait for more from this series. If you enjoy scifi, I highly recommend it.
Fae by C.J. Abedi: Like I mentioned with Dark Angel, fae mythology is another genre I’m not a fan of. However this story changed that. I adored this book. I devoured it and have read it multiple times since it’s release. I even have it on audio which if you enjoy audiobooks, I highly recommend. This is a mix of urban fantasy/mythology and perfect for the YA crowd.
The Broken Ones by Jen Wylie: I love epic fantasy. I don’t know how many times I’ve said it, it’s true. This series is one of my all-time favorites. It’s like a mix of dystopia and fantasy with a good mixture of creatures as well. I love Aro. She is a strong heroine who will have you rooting for her from the get-go. And all her boys 😀 I love them! They’re a ragtag group, just trying to survive, but have become a family. I love them! I need the next book. I’m dying to get the conclusion of this series.
Cinder & Ella by Kelly Oram: YA contemporary has never been my friend…unless it’s written by Kelly Oram. Cinder & Ella was the first book of hers I read and I fell in love. I love the writing style, the humor, the romance. All of it! And this book *swoon* it always makes me smile. You know, like the big, goofy grin kind of smile 😀

Cinder & Ella is such a sweet read. I read it at least once a year whenever I need a pick me up 😉

2014 was a great year for me bookwise-I read the Unwind series, which is now one of my favourites, I read the first two Throne of Glass books, I read Dangerous Girls….actually when I look back, I read some really great books in my first year of blogging!

Ohhh I completely forgot about Cinder & Ella. My blogging buddy Chelsea LOVED and I guess I spaced on adding it to my tbr. So thank you so much for reminding me about this book! 🙂 My favorite from 2014 was The Archers of Avalon Series by Chelsea Fine. The first book had so many no’s that I don’t normally like but it had the most amazing characters and I fell sooooo hard for that series.
