Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Best Books You’ve Read In 2017 So Far.” It’s no secret that I’ve had a rough start to 2017 and that has seriously cut into my reading time. So far this year I’ve read 42 books, 29 of those are new releases for 2017. Of those 29, 11 books were 5 star reads for me. Here are my 5 star books from the first half of 2017, in no particular order. As always, covers link to Amazon(affiliate)/Goodreads/Blog.

Top Ten Eleven Books of 2017 So Far

Book Cover for "Frostblood" by Elly BlakeFrostblood by Elly BlakeI have serious love for this debut book. While it reminds me a little (VERY little) of Red QueenFrostblood is its own dystopian, epic fantasy. I loved the world building, adored Ruby, and swooned over Arcus. And that ending?! While it wasn’t a terrible cliffhanger, it still left me wanting more. I cannot wait for Fireblood and to find out more about Sudesia.

Troll Cries by Ashley C. HarrisThis is the second book in the Troll series and while I didn’t love the first book, I loved this one. The dramatic irony set up with the different POV creates some intense suspense. As the reader you know what the characters do not and it leaves you feeling almost helpless as the characters walk into waiting traps. And Wilhelm….I love him. I can’t wait to see where Harris takes his character.

Poison’s Kiss by Breeana ShieldsThis book has made my short list of all-time favorites. It is fast-paced, intense, and even swoon-worthy at moments. Marinda is one of my favorite characters from my reads this year. She is conflicted about her life as an assassin but it takes falling in love and losing her only friend to find that what she thought was truth was fiction. Deception is the running theme and it is one that I highly recommend you read.Book Cover for "Poison's Kiss" by Breeana Shields

Happily Ever After by Kelly OramAfter two years of waiting and wanting, the author finally gave us an HEA for Cinder & Ella. I LOVED this book as much as the first. It doesn’t suffer from second-book syndrome and gives closure to the characters and readers. I can’t get enough of Ella and Brian’s romance. It is perfect

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. MaasDo I really need an explanation as to why this book is on the list? I devoured it and loved every word. I cried and screamed at my Kindle and then I laughed and swooned. I mean you get all the feels with this book. There is something happening on every page that will run you through the gamut of emotions. And that ending?! It was perfect….and we are getting more from this world *squee*

Book Cover for "When It's Real" by Erin Watt

Saven Deliverance by Siobhan DavisPerfect ending to the series. I wasn’t a huge fan of Sadie or Logan for that matter, but the world and events that happened throughout the series kept me reading. I fell in love with Sadie during this book, she is such a strong, fierce character. And Siobhan really pulled everything together when she concluded the series. It’s perfect!

When It’s Real by Erin WattI loved the Royals series which was surprising to me as I don’t really care for YA contemporary, especially those that are chock full of drama as this one is. But I liked it so I was excited to read this one. I LOVED it! I like it better than the Royals. Oakley and Vaughn are two totally different people that are thrown together for all the wrong reasons, but find themselves drawn to one another. It was a sweet story with a heart-warming end.

A Strange Hymn by Laura ThalassaThis is the sequel to Rhapsodic which I also loved. I fell in love with the Bargainer and Callie and could not wait to see how they handled the aftermath of facing down the mad king. Callie is strong in this book and her relationship with the Des comes into question more than once. It was fantastic!Book Cover for "Caraval" by Stephanie Garber

Caraval by Stephanie GarberIf I had to pick a favorite from 2017, this would be it. I was thoroughly engrossed in this book from page one. Garber is a fantastic storyteller. The narration, the vivid imagery, and the puzzle created within the book made for an unputdownable read. If you enjoy fantasy, I highly recommend it.

The Ghost of You and Me by Kelly OramTwo Oram books in just a few months and I loved them both! So far I have yet to find one of her books I didn’t like. I started this book late one night with the intention of only reading a few chapters ? I should’ve known better. I stayed up til like 4am finishing it. It was amazing! I cried and hurt so much for these characters. If you enjoy contemporary with a (very) small element of paranormal, I highly recommend it.

Starlight Bridge by Debbie MasonSometimes I want a cupcake read. You know what I’m talking about, a short and sweet romance that leaves you filling full and satisfied. That was this story. It’s sweet, romantic, and a story of second chance. I loved it as I love this series!

    • That’s great that you’ve had a good year! It’s been decent for me as well. The last two months though have really been duds (aside from my ACOTAR reread). Here’s to the rest of 2017 🙂
