Happy Sunday y’all! What a week this has been!!! I don’t even know where to start. How about that election?! Seriously Tuesday night, this was my husband and me:

Honestly we had decided to not even watch the election results. We voted 3rd party as neither of us could stomach to vote for Trump or Clinton. We in fact watched Black Sheep on Netflix and my husband was like “we’ll just check the results before bed.” 5 hours later we were watching Trump be declared president.

Seriously, it was really satisfying to watch the media eat crow as the results poured in. For weeks they’d been saying that Trump had no chance, that Clinton would win in a landslide and then the election results were so close, as close as they were in the 2000 election. While I didn’t like Trump, I do understand the motive behind voting for him. Rural America has been beat to heck, we are belittled by the media, our values and beliefs heralded as “deplorable.” It’s sad that even as I write this I fear being labeled a racist, homophobic, bigot, but THAT fear was the driving force behind Trump. I could write an entire post about the election but I won’t. Because a majority of you are tired of hearing about it, so am I.

In other news this week, my home state has declared a state of emergency as more than 40 fires are burning as our drought continues (we’ve only had 25in of rain this year!!! We average 55in). You step outside and it looks hazy because there is so much smoke in the air. I told my husband yesterday that it looked like some post-apocalyptic movie outside: the grass is dead, the air is hazy and yellow tinged, and the smell….don’t get me started. I worry about my son this week with his asthma and allergies. We can’t go outside without worrying about the shifts in wind and if the smoke will trigger an attack. It’s awful! We desperately need rain!!!

Reading wise it was a good week. I listened to three books and read three books for a total of 6 this week. The HoHoHo Read-a-thon is in full swing. I’ve read 2 books towards my 5 so far. Loving the holiday themed books! I will be putting up the Christmas stuff later this week I do believe 🙂

This Week’s Book Fix

What are you reading this week?

This week I would appreciate any good thoughts or prayers you want to throw my way. I head to the doctor on Tuesday and start the fertility treatments in earnest. I started the meds this past week and will be doing labs/ultrasound/shots this week. I’m nervous and excited, hoping to end 2016 with the promise of a new child in 2017. Fingers crossed 😀

Reading wise the HoHoHo Read-a-thon continues through Tuesday so I plan to devour as many holiday books as I can and then put up our tree. Little man is excited. He’s been asking for a week now to put it up. And Saturday we are going to go see Santa at his workshop which just adds the excitement. I have a feeling this will be our last year believing in Santa as he is almost 6 and already questioning how Santa will bring presents when we don’t have a fireplace. Kid is too smart for his own good 😉

What did you read this week? Any thoughts on the election (keep it clean, I will delete derogatory comments)? What are you reading now? When do you set up your tree? Share below

  1. I’m glad HoHoHo readathon is going well for you. I’m doing terrible at it… ha ha. In other news, I get it about the election. While the result wasn’t the one I wanted, I do think there is a rural backlash, they said rural and exurban turnout was through the roof. It’s a pretty divided country and I hope somehow can come together. THose fires sound terrible, I hope you get some rain or some kind of relief soon.

Best wishes on your treatments! And enjoy the Christmas stuff- I’m looking forward to all of it too. Such a fun time. Hunted looks good- I kinda want to read that one.

    • Thanks Greg! I agree about how divided the country has become. It’s sad really! I never felt this way growing up. I hope our country can come back together soon.
The fires are awful. The smell has even seeped into our house now. If it gets much worse, I’ll have to leave with my son because his lungs just can’t take it 🙁
Hope you have a wonderful week! (Hunted is on edelweiss right now for request if you’re interested. I’m excited to start it!)

  2. I am keeping fingers crossed for you on your treatment and with the fires. Those sound horrible and I hope they are gotten under control and your son is ok with his asthma. I think with the election less said the better. Now it’s hoping the fallout is not as bad as people imagine.

    • Thank you Emma! If the fires get much worse, I’ll have to take my son elsewhere. The smell this morning is now in our house ? I hope something changes soon! I agree on the election. It’s sad how divided our country has become. I hope we can come together soon.
Hope you have a great week!

  3. Fingers, Toes, Legs, Arms, Eyes are crossed. Not sure if I can cross anything else.
Ugh! I hope you guys get Rain! That sounds so scary.

My son is 11 and still believes and I am good with the answers which might not be a good thing. My daughter is 9 and is starting to question it but I am hoping she keeps it to herself. With my son having special needs I think it will be harder for him to understand and explain.

Have a great week, Lillian! I am praying for Rain for you all! Happy Reading!
