Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This week’s topic is “Ten Characters I’d Name A Child/Dog/Cat/Car/Etc. After,” which is appropriate for me as we are currently starting the whole fertility process over again. We have names picked out already for any future kiddos, but this topic got me thinking about all my favorite characters and if I would name a kid after them. Here are ten  characters I would be willing to name my child, in no particular order:

Ten Characters I’d Name My Child After

Rue from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: I loved Rue from the first moment Katniss noticed her. She’s a spunky, cunning character whose life is cut too short. Also if picked as a name for a future child it kills two birds with one stone as it is also my grandmother’s name 😉

Fred and George from the Harry Potter series by J.K. RowlingTwins run in my family so I’m always looking for twin names. Fred and George are two of the best characters from the series in my opinion. I love their wit and snarky comments, their love for their family and loyalty to one another. I couldn’t think of better names to name twins!

Dorian from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. MaasDorian is my favorite character from the Throne of Glass series. He’s kind, honest, and truly good. He will be a great king (I hope as I have not read Empire of Storms yet). It’s a strong name for a little boy.

Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: A feminist before her time, a thinker outside of the box, a woman that any little girl would be proud to share a name with.

Malachi from Guards of the Shadowlands by Sarah FineAside from being one fine specimen and a book boyfriend that I love, Malachi is kind and good-hearted, loyal, brave….the list could go on for days.

Alyxandria from the Dark Angel series by Hanna Peach: I personally love the spelling and the shortening to Alyx for this character. She’s strong, agile, cunning, loyal, and brave. Plus she saves the world, who wouldn’t want to be named after her?!

Cohen from Through Glass by Rebecca EthingtonI LOVE this name and the character! He’s kind, gentle, and the main character’s rock. I couldn’t imagine going through what they do without him. Oh and did I mention he’s an artist?

Erik from The Heir and The Crown by Kiera Cass: I loved Erik! He’s this kind, gentle soul who observes everything from the sidelines of Eadlyn’s Selection. He notices things that others miss and he is there for her when she needs him. *swoon*

Caspian from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis: I loved reading this character’s progression through the series. He started as a spoiled prince and became a king. He’s brave, smart, and a natural leader, he just needed a little nudge in the right direction.

Paul from the Firebird trilogy by Claudia Gray: There is not a better character in YA right now, IMHO. Paul is so incredibly sweet, kind, caring, loving, and loyal to a fault. I just adore him. And that name is a reflection of him, strong, steady and always relevant.

Your turn! What character would you name a child (or animal) after? Share below

  1. Elizabeth is nice, and so is Alyxandria (and I like the different spelling). Cool name. Rue’s not bad either, and I always liked Caspian and some of those exotic sounding names from the Narnia books. 🙂

    • My husband agrees with you Greg. He wanted to name our son Reepicheep *smh I vetoed as I did not think he would appreciate being named after a talking mouse, no matter how cool he is ?

  2. There are some really cool names there – but Rue means regret and is a bitter herb. And besides… she dies! But I love the name Erik – my friend’s husband has that name and he’s such a nice bloke and Elizabeth is what I would have called my son had he been a girl:).
