Happy Sunday everyone! Earlier this week was the first anniversary of my Papaw’s death. Even though it’s been a year, the grief is just as strong. It’s still hard for me to imagine that he’s gone. This past spring I read Mitch Albom’s The First Phone Call from Heaven and he put how I’m feeling best:

You have to start over. That’s what they say. But life is not a board game, and losing a loved one is never really “starting over.” More like “continuing without.”

It’s true. I’ve not really forgotten or moved past my Papaw’s death, but instead I’ve learned to accept it and live with the missing piece.

I’m thankful this week has been busy. It’s kept my mind off the anniversary. The book fair started at little man’s school and was a huge success! I had so much fun helping and selling books to the little ones and their grandparents on Grandparent’s Day. My little man went straight to the Star Wars table and wound up getting most of the books there 😉 Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and we did exactly what he wanted: sit in his underwear, drink a beer and watch his football team win. 😆 Yes, that is what he wanted and so that is what we did.

Reading wise I’ve had a much better week than previous. I managed to read 4 books this week, now if I can just get myself blogging regularly again. I promise I’ve not forgotten y’all. In fact I’ve missed you 😀 What did y’all read this week?

Currently Reading

I’m a little more than halfway through Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. I’m listening to it with my Audible membership. So far I love the narrator. He keeps my attention and the story itself is intriguing. I started Ash & Bramble by Sarah Prineas last night and while the start was a little slow I’m loving the world it’s set in!

This Week’s Book Fix

What are you reading this week?

This week is going to be another fun week. I’m volunteering in the library at little man’s school, helping with the Book Fair a few hours a day. I know that sounds crazy to most people that I would call that fun but y’all are my book friends so I figured you’d get it 😉 Little man has his first field trip in the morning. We are going to the local college to see a play called “The Boy Who Became Hook.” I’m excited, I think little man will love it. Hook is one of his favorite bad guys, mine too. I have a few arcs to read this week and I’m hoping to get caught up with my Netgalley reads by the end of October. It’s a tall order, but if I put my mind to it, hopefully it can be done. What are your plans this week?

  2. I’m sorry to hear about your Papaw. My family lost 3 members on my side (a cousin, an uncle, and my grandfather) and my husband’s father passed away too within a year so I too have been dealing with some anniversaries and grief. I know we all have those we’ve loved and lost so I hate that you’re experiencing that.

I’ve wanted to check out some Rachel Caine and just never have. Hope you have a great week!

  3. That quote sums things up really well. Continuing without someone you loved is always hard and it does get a bit easier but the grief is still strong even a year later. It’s good you managed to keep busy this week. And yay for getting 4 books read in a week. I hope you had a fun time at the library and book fair this week!
