Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This week’s topic is “Beach Reads Week — top ten great beach reads, ten books I plan to read on the beach, ten beach reads for those who don’t like typical ~beach reads~, ten authors who are my go-to for beach reads, etc.” Obviously it’s a broad topic and could be taken in any way. Well I’m not heading to the beach this year ? and that’s okay. I’m moving instead. BUT if I were going to the beach I have several books that would be my go-to reads.

I have a very particular type of book I like to read on the beach: contemporary romance. Yep you read that right. The girl that reads science fiction, fantasy, and mainly dystopians all year long and steers clear of anything contemporary will only read contemporary on the beach. I don’t know why but that’s just what I like. I like what I call a cupcake read (short, sweet, and quick to devour). So here are my top ten cupcake reads for the beach in no particular order. My 2016 Beach Picks

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes – I’ve read this one before when it first came out, but I’d like to reread it before the movie comes out this weekend. I love this story, just be sure to have tissues on hand 😉

The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion – Believe it or not, I haven’t read this one yet. BUT my mom and aunt have and just rave about it. I’ve already got them both in paperback. I can’t wait to start them. I’ve been told it’s a funny read so I’m hoping it will be after the sadness of my previous pick.

See Me by Nicholas Sparks – This is a go-to author for me. I haven’t had a chance yet to read his latest so it would make sense for me to have this one ready to read on the beach.

Happy Ever After in Christmas by Debbie Mason – I’ve feel in love with this series! Debbie Mason creates such fun, believable characters living in a small town. This one doesn’t come out till the end of June but I’ll be adding it my list for the beach.

Four Chambers by Julie Wright – This is May’s Power of the Matchmaker installment and I can’t wait to start it. Each book in this series is sweet and poignant. Plus the main character is a doctor. I’m curious to see how this plays out as my husband is finishing up residency now.

O’er the River Liffey by Heidi Ashworth – This is June’s Power of the Matchmaker installment (seeing a trend?). I love this series! This particular one is set during the 1800s after the Battle of Waterloo. I have a soft spot for historical fiction and knowing that it will contain a sweet, inspirational romance to boot has me wanting it now!

Meet your Match series by Rachael Anderson – I feel in love with this author reading her installment to Power of the Matchmaker so it makes sense I’d want to read more. In this series, each book is based off a Jane Austen classic, the first being Pride and Prejudice so of course I want to read them 😀

Joni, Underway by Kelly Oram & Jonathan Harrow – I LOVE Kelly Oram! Her contemporary romance always leaves me with a giant goofy grin on my face. This one has a bit of sadness to it though with a brother dying unexpectedly. Still I can’t wait to read it!

Mine series by Janeal Falor – I’ve already read the first two books (and novella) in this series and loved them! These are sweet romances set in a fantastical dystopian world where women are no better than slaves and it is illegal for them to use the magic they are born with.

  1. I’ve only read Me Before You from this list! I’m sooo looking forward to the movie! I really want to read a Nicholas Sparks book, everyone seems to love them. I haven’t even seen the movie adaptations of PS I Love You or The Notebook haha.

  2. I loved Me Before You so much and am excited for the movie. The Rodie Project was so much fin and so sweet. I wasn’t as much of a fan of the sequel though. Hope you enjoy them all!

  3. The only book I’ve read on this list is Me Before You, but I have a few here on my TBR list. Me Before You is such a beautiful book. I plan to watch the movie soon and hope it did the book justice.

  4. Great list! The only book I’ve read from it is Me Before You and I loved it! I really need to read After You and go see the movie when it comes out :p
    Enjoy your summer reading!

  5. I still haven’t read Me Before You, and I got advanced screening passes for the movie and couldn’t pass them up, so I did the big reading no-no and saw it before reading it. Though quite frankly it’s not as though I didn’t know how it was going to end, b/c it’s not hard to get spoiled reading reviews. Really enjoyed the movie and still hoping to read the book version.

You know Joni, Underway is now the ONLY Kelly Oram book I have yet to read? (minus Jamie Baker 3 of course) I just didn’t have time before I had to have my pre-order in for Utopia. I will get to it too, maybe this summer!
